Kardinaal Mercierlaan-Leuven

In de 14de eeuw werd hier een eerste kasteel gebouwd. De familie de Croy kreeg het domein in handen in 1446. In de daaropvolgende jaren en eeuwen werd het huidige kasteel opgetrokken in traditionele stijl met laatgotische en renaissancekenmerken.
Het werd ingrijpend gerestaureerd in de 19de eeuw.
In 1916 schonk de hertog van Arenberg het domein aan de universiteit.
Nu wordt het kasteel gebruikt door de faculteit toegepaste wetenschappen van de K.U.Leuven.De Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (officieel afgekort als K.U.Leuven, zonder spatie) is de oudste universiteit van de Nederlanden, en tevens de oudste nog bestaande katholieke universiteit ter wereld.Naast het kasteel staat nog een watermolen, waarvan het waterrad echter in slechte toestand verkeert.

Cardinal Mercierlaan

In the 14de century a first castle was built here. The family de Croy got the territory in hands in 1446. In the thereupon next years and centuries, the present castle was elevated in traditional style with late gothic and renaissance characteristics.
It was radical renovated in the 19de century.
In 1916 the duke of Arenberg shed it territory on the university.
Now the castle is used by the factorial applied sciences of the K.U.Louvain.The Catholic University Louvain is, the oldest university of the Netherlands, and besides the oldest still consisting catholic University in the world.Beside the castle stands an old watermill, from which it water wheel however is in a bad condition.
