Het kasteel La Follie, ook het benedenkasteel genoemd, bevindt zich in vogelvlucht op 700 m van het zogenaamde bovenkasteel, de burcht van Ecaussinnes-Lalaing. Het kasteel dankt zijn naam aan het bosrijke gebied waarin het werd gebouwd. Het geheel was omgeven door brede grachten met water uit de Seneffe. De slotgracht werd in de 18de eeuw gedicht. In de 16de eeuw wordt het kasteel grondig verbouwd onder impuls van Isabeau de Witthem. De Sint-Christoffelkapel vormt een van de hoeken van het binnenhof. De kapel in flamboyante stijl heeft een achthoekig grondplan, telt twee niveaus en heeft een klokvormig dak. Haute Rue 27 |

The castle La Follie, also the Below castle called, is located in bird flight on 700 m. of the so-called Upper castle, the citadel of Ecaussinnes Lalaing. The castle thanks its name to the wooded area in which it was built. The castle had surrounded by broad ditches with water from the Seneffe.In the 18° centuries the moat was filled up. In the 16° centuries the castle becomes thoroughly rebuilt under pulse of Isabeau de Witthem.The Saint Christoffel chapel forms one of the corners of the courtyard. The chapelin flamboyant style has an eight-angular ground plan, counts two levels and has a bell-shaped roof. |
