The field of Coloma has its roots in the middle ages. The current castle emerged in 1515 for the first time in documents. Leenaert of Hecke let build the castle to the taste of its time. The ditch and the corner towers still remind to the citadels of previous centuries, but large windows and comfortable living spaces are typical for a ' pleasure house ' of the sixteenth century. In 1687 Jan Roose bought the village and castle and made a barony of it three years later . Of its offspring, baroness Eugenia Roose married in 1745 with Karel the Coloma, chamberlain of queen empress Maria Theresia. He gave his current name to the domain. Last private owners of the castle were countess Antoinette van der Dilft de Borghvliet and her houseband earl Albert Limburg-Stirum. The countess died in 1947. Up to 1972 a boarding school was located in the castle. In 1982, the Flemish community bought the park (15 ha). In 1984, the municipality Sint-Pieters-Leeuw acquired the castle. After thorough restoration it serves now as a cultural centre and office for culture and tourism.
