The ground plan of the current castle dates from the time of the widow of Willem I van der Marck (1485). This castle is in the course of centuries several times rebuilt and has today a neoclassicistic view. The most well-known owner of the burg was Willem II van der Marck, a notorious Sea Beggar (A name assumed by the confederacy of nobles and other malcontents, who in 1566 opposed Spanish tyranny in the Netherlands) , nicknamed Lumey who conquered Den Briel for Willem the Zwijger, prince of Oranje. The castle is property of the family Briers the Lumey.
