Willem of Berchem, which stayed at Wommelgem, built between 1431 and 1464 a castle at Oostmalle. Of this citadel nothing has been however confessed. The only visible vestiges is the donjon which now forms the hinge point of the castle and the tounament beam (door calf) that now shine in the knight room. The village and the castle was burned down in 1542. Only the lock tower and the church tower remained intact. Between 1545 and 1548 Jan Van Renesse built a new castle. Between 1790-1800 the lord house fell gradually in decline. Restorations stayed away because of money lack. Army quartering and time did the rest. Eventually the decayed main court and the castle farmstead became demolished entirely. In 1830, the domain was sold to Viscount Léonard du Bus de Gisignies. He formed the old court to a livable country house with large windows and interior in empire-style..In 1920 Earl Maximiliaan rebuilt the castle in Flemish Neorenaissance-style. In 1984, started a first and second renovation-fase.In 1993-1994 a third and in 1999-2001 a last one.
