Dit voormalige Romaanse steen uit de 13de eeuw is genoemd naar ridder Gheeraert van Ghent, bijgenaamd de Duivel. Van de 13de-eeuwse constructie uit Doornikse kalksteen zijn enkel nog de oostvleugel en de donjon bewaard. Vanaf de 14de eeuw was dit steen eigendom van de stad. Sinds begin 20ste eeuw is hier het Rijksarchief gevestigd. Enkel de leeszaal is te bezoeken voor consultatie van het archief. Geraard de Duivelstraat 1 |

This former Roman castle from the 13th century is named after knight Gheeraert van Ghent, nicknamed the Devil. Of the 13de-centurial construction from Doornikse limestone, only are kept still the east wing and the donjon. From the 14d century this castle was property of the city.
