Where now the court of Roosendael stands, stood in former days a ” stead with house” called the Kyckuyt. During the siege of Antwerp in 1585 it would be complete plundered and devastated. The small castle that there now stands is the classified gateway bldg. of the disappeared Roosendaelhof (1635). The small castle was bought on 30 September 1924 by the municipality and on 31 July 1936 classified. In the court of Roosendael, the seat of the royal ring for Heemkunde (study of history of local area and its folklore) has established. All documents, use objects, books, plans, local-en archeological objects which are related to Merksem are kept here.
