The castle of Countess Jeanne the Merode, also ' new castle ' called, have been built between 1909 and 1911 and is an example of neo-gothic. Of 1911 until the second world war the castle was inhabited by the countess, her former governess and some staff members. After the death of the countess in 1944, the sisters augustinesses led in the castle a rest house for priests. In 1972, the municipal authorities of Westerlo bought the castle and arranged it as municipality house. The park has kept the original design around. The pond with fountain and adequate art work of Rik Poot by the municipality house dates back to 1995. The castle is accessible during the opening hours of the municipal administrative services and during the exhibitions which take place regularly.
