Anno 1625. Toen had het kasteel de naam 'Hoeve Ter Dilft'. In 1738 komt 'Ter Dilft' in handen van de familie Udens, die het omdoopt tot 'het Hoff van der Diest'. Rond 1830 koopt baron De Caters het kasteel. Hij voert er heel wat verfraaiingswerken aan uit en maakt van het domein een echt kasteelpark met hoeves en hofgracht. Na zijn dood komt het domein in handen van de familie Du Bois de Vroylande en de Borrekens. Baron Victor de Borrekens breekt in het begin van de twintigste eeuw het oude kasteel volledig af en bouwt er een nieuw aan de rand van de eeuwenoude vijver. Na zijn dood gaat het kasteel naar dokter Oscar Declercq. Onder de naam 'kliniek Ploeg Halle' behandelt men er dan patiënten met reuma. Getuige hiervan waren de grote houten baden die nog aanwezig waren toen de gemeente in 1978 het domein kocht.
