This castle has been lain behind the church of Boekhoute. Already in 1410 was there talk of the ‘Goed Ter Leyen”. It belonged then to a certain Jan Sloeven from Ghent. Initially it must have been a lord farmhouse. As from 1580 concerning the “castle court” is spoken for the first time. In 1774, became it sold in public for about 530 pound. In 1933, the castle was restored by the well-known archtect Valentijn Vaerwijck of Ghent, and got it its current view. It is provided with 2 corner-towers and flanking turrets. Since 11 January 1977 the castle and its surroundings have been classified.
