Het oudste gedeelte van het kasteel (feitelijk de boerderij) van Blier werd rond 1500 gebouwd door de familie “de Blier”, die er bleef wonen tot de helft van de 19de eeuw.Het wapenschild van deze familie van Blier hangt nog steeds boven de ingang van van het kasteel.Het schijnt dat de bekende Franse acteur “Bernard Blier” afkomstig is uit deze familie.

Rond 1870 bouwde Auguste Seny, erfgenaam van de familie de Blier, het ‘Petit Château de Blier’.In 1882 werd het kasteel (als vakantiehuis) verkocht aan de familie Wilmart uit Luik. De eerstgeboren zoon, Charles Wilmart, gaat in het kasteel wonen en, omdat hij 8 kinderen had, heeft tussen 1890 en 1905 het ‘Grand Chateau’ gebouwd. Het kasteel van Blier werd in 1935 verkocht aan Fernand de Ghoÿ

Tijdens de slag om de Ardennen (tweede wereldoorlog, december 1944 – februari 1945) werd het kasteel het hoofdkwartier van de Amerikaanse troepen: het schijnt dat de generaal Patton enkele dagen in het kasteel verbleef.
In 1960 werd het kasteel eigendom van een Vlaamse mutualiteit

In 1997 heeft de familie Van Dessel het kasteel aangekocht om het te exploiteren als vakantiehuis en door vele renovaties de kwaliteit steeds te verbeteren.

Een gedeelte van het kasteel is in 1999 aan de heer Vanderlinden verkocht die hier het hotel - restaurant “L’Affenage” in heeft gevestigd.

The oldest part of the castle (actually the farm) of Blier was built around 1500 by the family the Blier, which continued there live up to half of the 19° centuries. The weapon shield of this family of Blier hangs still above the entrance of the castle. It seems that the well-known French actor Bernard Blier comes from this family.
Around 1870 Auguste Seny,heir of the family the Blier, built the `Petit Château the Blier. In 1882 the castle were sold (as holiday house) to the family Wilmart from Liege. The first-born son, Charles Wilmart, will live in the castle and, because he had 8 children, between 1890 and 1905 has built the `Grand Chateau. The castle of Blier was sold in 1935, to Fernand the Ghoÿ
During the battle for the Ardennes (second world war, December 1944 - February 1945) the castle became the headquarters of the American troops: it seems that general Patton some stayed days in the castle.
In 1960, the castle became property of a Flemish health insurance company
In 1997, the family Van Dessel has bought the castle to develop it as holiday house and by always improving quality by a lot of modernizations .
A part of the castle has been sold in 1999, to the lord Vanderlinden who the hotel - restaurant L’Affenage has established .
