Het originele kasteel past in een sprookjeswereld. Opgericht op de top van een heuvel getuigt het van een tomeloze smaak van de architecten uit de vorige eeuw voor Middeleeuwse constructies, wat men kan aflezen aan de vele torentjes, trapgevels, deuren en vensters in alle hoeken en bizarre, gewrongen goten.Voor de verbouwing van het kasteel, in de volksmond ook bekend als “Le Château des milles fenêtres”, tekende de Gentse architect Auguste Van Assche. Het werd tot buitenverblijf verbouwd tussen 1895 en 1900.Onder invloed van de Vlaams-gotische invloeden van die tijd liet Eggermont Van Assche het kasteel volledig bedekken met breuksteen (kalksteen). Hij liet de oude toren verhogen, waardoor men op een hoogte van dertig meter toegang krijgt tot een terras, waar men een adembenemend uitzicht heeft. De aangrenzende achthoekige toren is 45 meter hoog.Het kasteel telt 49 kamers.Het kasteel bevindt zich niet meer in de oorspronkelijke staat en is vervallen en onbewoond. De boerderij, melkerij, manege en stallen zijn wel in goede staat.

The original castle is appropriate in a fairy tale world. Set up on the top of a hillock it testifies of an unbridled taste of the architects from the previous century for medieval constructions, what one can read to the many turrets, staircase gables, doors and windows in all angles and bizarre, wringed drainage pipes. For the rebuilding of the castle, also known as The castle with a thousand windows ,signed the Ghent architect Auguste Van Assche. It became to outside stay rebuilt between 1895 and 1900. Under the influence of Flemish-Gothic influences of that time let Eggermont Van Assche cover the castle entirely with hardcore (limestone). He left the old tower to raise, as a result of which one on altitude of thirty meter access gets to a terrace, where one has a breathtaking view. The adjacent octagon tower is 45 meters high. The castle counts 49 chambers. The castle is no longer in the original state is decayed and uninhabited. The stable, the farm, dairy, riding school is however, in good state. |
