Het park van Longchamps vertegenwoordigt met zijn schittererende vergezichten, zijn schilderachtige tafereeltjes en vele prieeltjes één van de meest opmerkelijke getuigenissen van de Waalse landschapskunst uit de 19de eeuw. Het ligt rond een elegant onderkomen in "Empire"-stijl, dat in de plaats van een nog ouder kasteel gebouwd werd. De oorspronkelijke inrichting van de Fransman Poidevin werd gewijzigd door de beroemde tuinarchitect Fuchs, die het zijn huidige vorm gaf, de samenstelling ervan verbeterde en ruimte schiep voor het wandelpad rondom de vijver. Destijds bezat het park een buitengwone collectie (door architect Michaux) uit Noord-Amerika ingevoerde bomen. Helaas zijn er nog maar enkele zeldzame specimen van de tuinbouw uit de 19de eeuw, die vroeger zijn trots vormde, over. The park of Longchamps represents with its splendid panoramas, is picturesque scenes and a lot of bowers one of the most remarkable testimonies of the Walloon landscape art from the 19° centuries. It lies around an elegant accommodation in Empire - style, which was built in the place of a still older castle. The original interior of the French mr Poidevin was modified by the famous garden architect Fuchs, who gave it its current form, the composition of it improved and space created for the walking path around the pond. Then the park had a extraordinary collection (by architect Michaux) North America introduced trees. Unfortunately there is still but some rare specimen left of the horticulture from the 19° centuries, that former formed his pride . |
