Château de Tavigny dateert al van de 9e eeuw. In het jaar 893 is ’de heerlijkheid van Tavigny’ in het bezit van het klooster in Prüm, net over de Duitse grens. Omstreeks het jaar 900 is de donjon in Tavigny gebouwd. Enkele eeuwen later wordt deze verdedigingstoren extra beschermd door er vier ronde torens in een carré rondom te plaatsen. De torens worden onderling verbonden door blinde muren. In één muur komt een poort.

In de 14e eeuw komt het domein, samen met de burcht, in handen van de feodale familie d’ Ouren.
In 1594 wordt de burcht tot kasteel verbouwd, toen Jean d’Ouren trouwde met Adrienne van Pallant. Van de oude burcht blijven twee ronde torens staan en de schietgaten in de muren getuigen nog van de onrustige tijden in de Middeleeuwen. De d’Ourens waren geziene figuren in de adellijke kringen in Luxemburg en de Eiffel en bekleedden belangrijke militaire posiites.

Tot het begin van de 18e eeuw waren zij de heren van Tavigny toen in 1730 de laatste Baron d’Ouren stierf en het kasteel naliet aan zijn neef Hubert, Baron van Dobbelstein d’Eynebourg en Moresnet. In 1811 stierf ook deze familie uit in Tavigny en ging het kasteel over naar een neef, Gabriell-Auguste, Graaf de Ludre. Deze officier in het leger van de Franse Koning verkocht het kasteel in 1824 aan een rijke leerlooier uit Stavelot. Dit was het einde van de heerschappij van de heren van Tavigny.

Château the Tavigny date already of the 9th century. In the year 893 the lusciousness of Tavigny is in the possession of the convent in Prüm, just over the German border. Around the year 900 the donjon in Tavigny have been built. Some centuries later this defence tower is extra protected by four round towers in a square to place around. The towers are mutually linked by blind walls. In one wall a gateway comes.
In the 14e centuries the field becomes, with the citadel, in the hands of the feudal family d Ouren.
In 1594 the citadel becomes rebuilt to a castle, when Jean d’ Ourenmarried with Adrienne van Pallant. Of the old citadel two round towers continue stand and the weepholes in the walls still testify of the restless times in the middle ages.The d’ Ourens were esteemed characters in the noble rings in Luxembourg and the Eiffel and held important military posiites.
Up to the beginning of the 18th century they were the lords of Tavigny then in 1730, the last baron d’ Ouren died and left the castle to its cousin Hubert, baron van Dobbelstein d Eynebourg and Moresnet. In 1811, family also this died out in Tavigny and concerned the castle to a cousin, Gabriell-Auguste, earl de Ludre. This officer in the army of the French king sold off the castle in 1824, to a rich learning tanner of Stavelot. This was the end of the sovereignty of the lords of Tavigny.
