- Kasteel Hoepertingen was ooit een versterkte middeleeuwse burcht.
- De oudste vermelding over deze leenheerlijkheid gaat terug tot 1150. In de 17de en de 18de eeuw werd het kasteel verbouwd tot een prachtig adellijk herenhuis op het platteland. Hiervan zijn nog historische sporen bewaard zoals: de kasteelhal, de kardinaalszaal en de huiskapel.
- Van 1930 tot 1985 werd de kasteelhoeve weer verbouwd, ditmaal tot meisjesinternaat met de naam Sint-Maria Instituut.
- Nog steeds wordt een deel van het kasteel bewoond door Zusters Annuntiaten van Heverlee.Na een grondige modernisering in 1987 veranderde niet alleen de naam van Sint-Maria Instituut in Kasteel Mariagaarde vzw, maar ook de functie. Kasteel Mariagaarde biedt momenteel mogelijkheden voor: vorming, bezinning, streekverkenning, kunstbeoefening en cultuurtoerisme.

- Castle Hoepertingen was ever a reinforced medieval citadel.
- The oldest indication concerning these fief manor returns to 1150. In the 17° and the 18° centuries the castle was rebuilt to a splendid noble lord house on the country. Of this, still historical tracks have been kept such as: the castle hall, the cardinal room and the house chapel. From 1930 up to 1985 the castle farm was rebuilt, this time to a girl boarding school with the name Sint-Maria institute. Still a part of the castle is inhabited by sisters Annuntiaten of Heverlee. After a thorough modernisation in 1987, not only the name of Sint-Maria institute changed in castle Mariagaarde npo, but also changed the function of it. Castle Mariagaarde offers at present possibilities for: shaping, meditation, region exploration, practice of art and culture tourism.
