Although the wind mill is considered at Rullegem as one of the most beautiful and most unique of Flanders, its history is not fully known. We know certainly some facts: the current wooden mill was built around 1750. From ecclesiastical source becomes clear however that on the same hillock in former days a wind mill already much has twisted: in every way as from 1424, possibly still earlier. Both current and the disappeared wind mill has been almost continuously noble possession. From beginning 16th up to beginning the 19 centuries was the mill property of the lord of Herzele, later of baron of the Woestijne. In 1906, the wind mill comes in possession of earl du Parc Locmaria.Tot end the 18 centuries was the mill at Rullegem a ban mill.
