Years ago there was a legal tug of war between Waregem and Wielsbeke about the possession of the Munkenhof. The pleads were eventually settled in the advantage of Waregem.
The enclave Munkenhof that lies between the Leie and the canal Roeselare-Leie,will for historical reasons not be transferred to Wielsbeke and remains therefore the territory of Waregem. Around 950, the earl of Flanders , Arnulf de Grote gave a part of the intimate possession to the St-Pieters abbey of Ghent with the intention to bring these declined region to development again. The donation contained large parts of the territory of Desselgem, Beveren, Waregem and perhaps even a property at St-Eloois-Vijve, so that the donation can be considered as a fusion. To the Leie at Desselgem the monks (hence Munkenhof) built the administrative center of the area: leenhof, aldermen bank, prison, tenth barn where also the inhabitants of Ooigem had to deliver their tenth (taxes) .
