Het huidige kasteel is - op de fundamenten van de oude burcht - gebouwd in de 18e eeuw door de prins van Löwenstein, die ook het minumentale kerkje van Cugnon liet bouwen. Het kasteel is lange tijd eigendom geweest van de familie Pierlot.De eerste Pierlot die het kasteel bewoonde was Hubert Pierlot, hij was afkomstig uit Cugnon.Na zijn overlijden kwam het bezit in handen van zijn zoon. Na diens overlijden heeft zijn echtgenote in Chateau Cugnon nog enkele jaren een Chambres d'Hôtes uitgebaat.
